The first sentence in the Wipipedia article "NoSQL" points out what is the main difference between relational databases and NoSQL. It's not the lack of providing an interface in SQL language rather than the organization of data storage that makes the difference.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NoSQL

A NoSQL (originally referring to "non-SQL" or "non-relational")[1] database provides a mechanism for storage and retrieval of data that is modeled in means other than the tabular relations used in relational databases.

Lots of databases have query languages so that you can find things without hard-coding method calls into a custom application.

Neo4j has had 2 different query languages, I think.

And it's not uncommon for database query languages to have syntax similar to SQL, just as Java was made similar to C/C++. People prefer to work with a structure that they are somewhat familiar with.

However, the NoSQL DBMS's are generally distinquished by the fact that unlike SQL, they don't do table joins. Some just do more or less direct queries, others, like Neo4J join, but they join instances rather than tables.
