Fellow moderator Stephan van Hulst and I are planning to do a live pairing/TDD session next week (June 13-17, 2022) and would like to invite all who are interested in watching and learning more about TDD to join us.

To get maximum reach, we'd like you to vote on when you'd most likely be able to attend such an event.

How voting works:
1. You have six (6) cows with which to cast your vote and register your preference.
2. Use all of your cows votes so we have a good sense of what can work for most people
3. To register a strong preference for one particular option, vote for it multiple times
4. If you have a thumb up vote available, use that to indicate a really strong preference for an option.

Note: In the options below, "morning" means 8:00am - 12: 00pm and "afternoon" means 12:00pm - 5:00pm US Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-4). The actual event schedule will be within those ranges but we anticipate the session to be about two hours long. For example, if most people prefer June 14 (Tue) afternoon, we could schedule the event on that day from 2pm to 4pm EDT, assuming both Stephan and I are available.

Are y'all ready for this? I will start the meeting early to give folks some time to meet and greet as well as to work through some of the logistics of the session with whoever wants to participate in the pairing/mobbing.

See you in twenty minutes!

First, thank you Junilu once again for hosting this session - I'd say it's been great and a pleasure.

And I'd really encourage more people to join the next session we may have on Friday.  Priceless.

Thanks, Junilu, I thoroughly enjoided it. Have some cows.

It was also very nice to see some familiar names live on screen.

I think to come up with my own tests, I'll show them here tomorrow, I hope.

It was striking to see how two, by the look of it, simple requirements lead to so much discussion, and how hard it sometimes is to come up with good names for the tests. See you next Friday!

That was a really great session - a good first exposure (for me) to TDD, and a lot of fun to interact with people behind the names we regularly see posting on CodeRanch.

Thanks everyone who joined. It was fun although I probably talked more than I should have. At least we got 1 of 2 asks done, kind of.

I look forward to doing more on Friday.

Liutauras was going to set up a meeting that could be recorded. If Liu can't get that set up, we'll use these Google Meets for the session today:

TDD Live Session #2 - Friday, June 17, 2022 from 1pm - 3pm EDT (GMT-4)
Part 1 - https://meet.google.com/ssa-ckms-fui
Part 2 - https://meet.google.com/bgm-rwhv-gbt

Since I only have a basic account, we had to break the session down into two parts, just as we had to on Tuesday. If Liu posts a different meeting link, that one will supercede these.

See you later!

Hi Junilu, I missed the messages you sent me earlier this week. I haven't used Google chat before. Tell me what time works for you and where to meet. In the mean time, I'll familiarize myself with mob.sh.

Hi Junilu, apparently the recording is available only through zoom corporate account, so I presume we couldn't record with simple accounts neither google or zoom. So the recording option goes out I think.

I got today company's day off, so taking my family by the lake given the weather is really good here.

I will try to come back on time, but perhaps will get delayed. In which case I'd join being a bit late.

Thank you for running those regardless!

Thanks, Liu. We'll go ahead with the Google Meet links I gave earlier then.

Stephan and I are going to be pairing today. We're going to do this slightly different from how we did it in the last session.

Format:

Stephan and I will pair on the same problem for about 30 minutes. We want everyone else to just observe, take notes perhaps, but essentially be quiet and let us do the work.

After 30 minutes we'll pause to assess our progress and retrospect. We'll get feedback from the group, and based on the conversation, we may decide to do another round with some of the feedback in mind or just continue where we left off. Ideally, we'll timebox the retro/discussion to 15 minutes or less so that we can be actually *doing* TDD more than we are *talking* about TDD. I think learning by doing (or watching someone doing it) is better than just talking about it.

We'll try to get as many DO-DISCUSS-DO-DISCUSS cycles as we can in the two hours we have, leaving enough time to wrap everything up in a final discussion and retro.

See you soon!

I'm sad that I cannot join the session, but my evening childcare duties start at 5pm which is the exact time you start (in my timezone).

However I am not sad about unapologetically gatecrashing Stephan and Junilu's prep session earlier just to say hello

Tim, I'm going to try to schedule a future session that's within your window of opportunity.

I work with people who are 12-13 hours ahead of my time zone and I'd like to get them involved as well.

Well I think the evidence of my timezone wrangling skills speaks for itself here.

Junilu, I would love to be a part of it. Thank you.

This TDD is more fun than fitting a curve to some dwelling fire claims. If only I knew this 45 years ago...
