Hi All,

I am planning to learn most widely used commercial server like WebLogic or WebSphere. Out of WebLogic and WebShere what is the mostly used commercial application server used my IT Companies ?

In what scenarios/environments which one is preferred over the other ?

Thanks & Regards,
Kumar.

According to the last few surveys from the analyst groups like Gaertner, Weblogic and WebSphere have split the market with a 34% market share each. However, WebSphere has been gaining market share, while Weblogic is losing market share. If you extrapolate that trend to the next survey you'll probably find WebSphere the undisputed market leader. In fact, some surveys have already started to point in that direction.

As for what you use them for -- anything you you can build with one you can build with the other. The differentiators are price, performance, support, and usability.

Everything I have seen points to WebSphere as the market leader of commercially sold application servers. It's hard to tell how many open source servers such as JBoss are actually running in production but there is a definent trend for open source app servers as well and it will only continue to grow. IT departments are tired of paying $17k per CPU for something they can get for free.
