Hey everyone!

First of all, I have not purchased any books yet.

So there are the following two books:

- OCP Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 17 Developer Study Guide: Exam 1Z0-829
- OCP Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 17 Developer Practice Tests: Exam 1Z0-829 // will release in September 2022

On the cover of the Study Guide, it says in red font:

3 custom practice exams
More than 500 electronic flashcards

Conceptually, both of this is just questions & answers/explanations, correct?

Then, what will the 2nd book "Practice Tests" provide? Will it provide just more questions & answers/explanations?
How important will the 2nd book be for passing the exam?
I just have intermediate experience (1.5 years Java experience from Uni and from my first job that I have begun 3 months ago).

Kind regards
Tymo

Hi Tymo,
I'm studying on Jeanne&Scott's book, never worked as developer nor anything similar, trying to get ready for the certification in September.
Yes, the Practice Test book is all made of question&answers. How much is that important for the exam?
I think it depends on your previous knowledge of java and the way you want to study for the exam.
The Study Guide is REALLY exhaustive about any topic. It prepares you for all of the specifics classes, methods and commands that could be asked in the exam, giving you general explanation of every API or class you need to know. It also says often things like "you have to know that for the exam" or "the exam will try to trick you on that thing", etc.
For me is perfect, because otherwise it would be really difficult to choose what to focus on. Might be a bit boring for people using those APIs every day since a few years.
Tests are the best part, and in the Study Guide you get around 25 question per chapter, plus the online tests and flashcards. I still have to get to the end, but for what I see on the forum most people get prepared just with the Study Guide.

I think the book really worths the money.
Hope my experience can be helpful somehow!

You clarified everything I wanted to know, going to buy the Study Guide as an e-Book now. Good luck for your Java Certification & thank you very much for your help, Marco!

What Marco said. The book is text with review questions.  The 3 custom bonus exams for the study guide are online only.

The practice tests book has everything in the book. All questions across the two books are unique.

Fun fact: we are done with the practice tests book! It is now on the way to the printer.
