I have added several 0s to what I get paid at CodeRanch.

Joking aside, if you are caught you would be liable to prosecution for fraud, instant dismissal, having mentioned in references for life, and having your employer tell every HR department in sight.

Can you? Probably. For example, changing jobs will likely change the salary number on that slip.

Can you do it yourself so it won't get noticed? Probably not.

Should you do it yourself? Probably not.

You could get some colouring pencils and draw a lovely flower on it. That'll be a nice change wouldn't it?

Just to be clear here, paper transactions such as a pay slip traditionally use "pass by value" rather than "pass by reference".

Once your employer has given you a pay slip you can do whatever you like to it:

You can destroy it by shredding, fire, acid, etc.

You can draw all over it

You can fold it into interesting shapes

You can change the text or the numbers

However, all these are just changes to your copy of the payslip. The copy held by the employer (and the copy given to the tax people) remain the same as they always were.

interesting question:

the answer ultimately is.. Can I do so: yes.

the answer in actuality is.. i chose to walk a different path many years ago.  i chose the path of family and respectability, and left the idea of "hacking and cracking" long behind before ever really getting off to a start.

the real question is: Are you willing to pay the price to do so?  i am not, for anything you do does come with a very real price.
