My company is starting down the road to using IBM Portal Server... Unfortunately, because this is a huge organization with more than it's fair share of political games, I have thus far been unable to get a copy so I can start work on some portlets.

My question is, is there a trial available I can use? I haven't been able to find it on IBM's site, but maybe I'm missing it. As an alternative, are there any open-source packages I can play with? I'm not sure how compatible IBM's offering is with JSR 168 (even though they submitted it), so I'm not sure I really want to toy with anything BUT Portal Server itself.

Thanks!

Hi,
you can check out Liferay Portal Server. It is a certified and open source Portal Server.

I have also recently started developing for portal server. You best bet is to first download the portal toolkit from IBM and run your portlets from within WSAD. At least this way you can start learning\developing portlets before you get the full blown Portal Server up and running.

What version of WSAD will you be using?
