I try to start WebSphere 3.5 and get the following error:
The IBM WS AdminServer service terminated with service-specific error 10.

I tried the following 3 solutions but still the problem has not resolved.

1): kill the java.exe processes running on the server.

2): delete all the blank line in the file and try starting again.
3) If the database specified for WebSphere Application Server to use as its
repository has not been created, you will see a Specific error 10 message.
To ensure that the WAS35 database exists.

Please help me in this regard.

Post the output of the System.out and System.err file for the server (the ends of them), they should have more meaningful output.

Hi Scott Selikoff

I copied the following details from 'Event Viewer' of Control Panel -> Administrative Tools.
Application Log details:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Websphere ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: IBM WS AdminServer status: 997 Unable to start WebSphere Administration Server in 3 tries, service exiting.
System log details:
Source:Service control Manager
Event ID:7024
Description:The IBM WS AdminServer service terminated with service-specific error 10.

We welcome any suggestion.

The windows event log is not useful, need to see the log files of the WAS server itself. Search your WAS home directory for System.out and System.err.

I'm not sure if I approve of this interruption. But this tiny ad checks out:
