During focused listening in communication forgetting some parts of what one was about to say

In communication, it is important to be good listener and listen to what the opposite person is saying. While listening with focus to what the opposite person is saying, I sometimes forget some of the details of what I was about to say. Is it normal to do so and what are the ways to do this effectively?
