Hima,
Welcome to JavaRanch!

I'm going to move this to our IBM/WebSphere forum since it deals with a tool rather than JDBC.

In RAD 6 (the successor to WSAD), you can test the datasource through the admin console. I don't remember a way to do so in WSAD. This article confirms you need to write code to test the datasource in WSAD.

WSAD 5 only supports up to J2EE 1.3. Unless you are developing an old application, consider upgrading.

WSAD/RAD actually have a 'test' button. Just open the admin console, navigate to the data source and select 'test'.

Scott: What admin console? WSAD had the "WebSphere test environment" not a full server. I don't remember an admin console. I do remember a scaled down console for the test environment.
