Thanks to everyone and this site.
Just coming form the test center, passed the last exam - NA. It was a wonderful learning experience took about 3.5 months but worth it. Does Oracle send me the so called OCP Kit or I have to call them? where ? . Does anybody have an idea about upgrade exam to 9i, books, other resources ??
Bye for now

Muhammad Congratulation on being OCP. I have few questions. Would you like to answere it?
Did you install Oracle database in your computer to learn and practice? Did you buy it or is it free?
What books did you use? May be not relevant to Oracle9i track certification.
How much time did you spend for each certification track number test? I think 3.5 months is total time for all test, right!
Did you use any other site or link beside this for preparations?
I am thinking for Oracle9i track certification. Thank you for your response in advance.

Thanks Bal.
I did install Oracle database on my PC. It was Oracle 8i Personal Edition, but I would recommend Enterprise Edition if you have Windows2000/NT/Linux/Unix etc. You can download it for free from oracle website, both editions are also available for 9i too. Just get register at OTN, you can get 20% discount on all your tests plus free downloads of Software and access to other resources.
I bought a set of three books which covers the whole 8i OCP, they call call it OCP DBA Kit.
Yes, it took 3.5 months for all five exams (you will have 4 exams if you opt for 9i). First Exam (SQL)took about 25 days. the second B&R about 5 weeks and then rest of the three exams took 2 weeks each.
There are not so many resources available for OCP, but you can visit the discussion forums at OTN site and at dbasupport.com .
HIH.

Congratulations!!
By the way, where is this "3.5 months" time period mentioned? Is it in the DBA kit?
Thanks,

Thamks Gaja,
There is no time limit to pass all the exams as long as the exams are not retired(e.g OCP 8 is retiring on March 31, 2002).

Hi Muhammad:
I think you did hard work to finish Oracle8i in 3.5 months. This is my estimate evaluating weight of these exam. I still have few more questtions. Hope you will address them.
  • I do not have Windows2000/NT/Linux/Unix environment. I have WindowsME. What would be the best to download? Oracle9i Personal Edition or Enterprise Edition.
  • I do not see any good books targetted towards Oracle 9i cetification. I saw software bundles at Oracle University but they are very expensive. However; it says certification voucher is included. For example, Exam# 1Z0-007 (Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL) costs $450.00. What should I do? Buy these softwares or look other options.
  • Which one exam did you find tough? Which one you felt easiest?
  • Did you have any prior database working experience? If so how many years. It does not necessary to be in oracle, may be other RDMS. I am starting from zero base.
  • Now I understand why training schools are charging a lot of money to train students for Oracle cetification?

    Hi Bal,
    Thanks.
You can find all the available editions of Oracle 9i here, unfortunately I don't see any edition available for Win ME, but there is one, Personal Edition, for win 98 - thats what I have installed.
So unless you have win 2000/NT/XP Pro/Unix, Personal edition is the only option left with win 98.
There are not may books available on 9i, but some are already published and soon market will be flooded with many books on 9i. Books for first three exams are available at amazon) from Oracle Press (I dont see a good review for Oracle pree books from its readers, thats why I bought the Oracle DBA kit from Sybex, believe me it was wonderful).
I have no idea about the courses available from oracle university, infact I didnt see any reason for myself to do these courses - anyway voucher cost just $100 (after 20% discount if you register at OTN).
I found Admin and Architecture to be the toughest and Net Admin to be the easiest.
I have very little experience with Oracle or any other database (few SQL statements and Form4.5). I also started from zero, and because of the lack of available resources for 9i , I opt for 8i and then WILL upgarde soon(its like I have to pass 6 exams instead of 4)
Hope it helps, if you have further questions, please do let me know.
    Regards,
