Hi Krishnan,
Yes, you can take either of these two.
9i SQL exam is cheaper (US$ 90), while the other one is US$125.

That is a news to me! I remember seeing two different exam codes for the first exam on two different pages of Oracle site; but then thought that was a mistake! Any idea, why two exams with different objectives and different costs?
By the way, will SQL exam alone be sufficient or will PL/SQL knowledge be tested in other exams?
Thanks a lot for sharing the information about two exams!

Hi Gaja,
I have the same feeling as you have but the fact is that both of these two exams can be applied towards OCA/OCP 9i DBA Track. Please have a look at Here . (Please look into page # 5).
I was looking into the objectives of 9i exams and found out that some of the topic from previous SQL PL/SQL exam(1ZO-001) are now covered in Fundamentals I exam - just my understanding.

Hi all,
This is to all of you who r preparing for 9i as even iam doing so and for those early birds who have cleared 1Z007.This exam only tests about 9i SQL and no mention of PL/SQL is there is that compensated in some other paper.I went through the objectives and I didn,t found it.So why is this so that 9i first paper is tested only on SQL

Thanks Muhammad - the candidate guide does say that the first exam can be any one - Oracle 9i SQL or Oracle SQL & PL/SQL!
Thanks Sunny - I am already a member of OTN.
Rishi - I am sorry, but I too do not know why two different exams and whether PL/SQL is covered later as I haven't gone through the objectives in detail.

Hi, I have a question about Oracle9i track. Oracle9i track has a Certified Database Associate Cert, will Oracle send you this cert first after you complete two exams? Another question is: I bought Oracle8i DBA kit, do I need to buy all books concerning Oracle9i track to pass Oracle9i tests? Just wondering if I wasted my money...

Hi Holmes,
Yes, Oracle will send you the OCA certificate after you pass the first two exam of oracle9i track. Regarding your second question, I have no idea how much 8i DBA kit will be enough/useful for the preparation of 9i. My suggestion would be to go through the objectives(of exams) of both the track and look for similarities and differences and buy a good book on new features in 9i and then prepare for the 9i track - just my thought.

Thanks for your reply, Muhammad. I find there are two kinds of Oracle certs: DBA and Developer, which one is better for future job hunting? Oracle9i is a new track, is it as popular as Oracle8i in the market? Thanks.

I don't like that guy. The tiny ad agrees with me.
