the last post on this thread is in 2008 and this is 2009. Is the book for EJB 3.0 released or not I wanted to shift to JEE, After searching on Google it does no t seem that the book is still released.
If it is not what other book will be a good fit to study for SCBCD.

very easy way to pass the exam....

But I think real path to pass is not Head First....
real path is objectives of Exam... sound stupid ... and many of ranch member are going to hit me back...

we have objective...
we have books (EJB n Action, Pro EJB, Mastering EJB, spec....)
read any book...
check with objective... what is left (not covered in your study)
read that... take free mock exam....
you have this forum to share your doubts...
cherry on top ... you have author of books, members already pass the exam to answer the question....

If head first is there, I would be first to get it.... but since its not there, alternative path is not tough try that....

It would be nice to have a HF EJB for sure, but from the looks of it, we would be looking at another year or so before we can get our hands on it, and even then, you're taking a chance with the new authors as the ones we're familiar with have already expressed that they're not interested.

I'd say give it up and use whatever resources that are available right now. I'm doing it. I'm curious as to what the passing % among EJB 3 test takers who have gone without HF though - I see the 'passed with xx%' threads from time to time but I wonder that for every of those threads out there, how many have failed with xx%?

I do feel like I'm taking more of a risk without a dedicated exam preparation material like HF but it's either that or waiting for something that may or may not come to fruition.

Everything is out there in the market for the exam takers to grab,study, pass.

HF approach indeed simplifies the exam by 50%! The challenge is diluted the moment you take the HF exam guide in your hand.

Nonethless, it's a structured and target oriented way of learning and achieving the certification benchmark, in optimum time!

Today, it's been almost 2months that I am reading EJB books . I feel I am aware of the concepts. But am I ready for the exam? Not really. Things to cram, things to be cautious etc. are what that are needed for the exam. After reading in action, pro ejb3.0 books, i can not say i know EJB3.0 unless I pass the exam (which is possible fast, only when you get a HF book)

My feeling is with just the objectives it might take 3 months but with a Head First it might take just a month to finish the exam.

I reallly miss HF SCBCD 5.0 book , Please start writing it then it would be easier for my kids atleast to get through SCBCD exam :P

Book is going to rock when its finally released to the general public. I'll inevitably find myself in a stampeded the day it has its grand opening but I'll definately be camping outside O'Reilly's office just so I can see it first. Even I want the book. Expectations are definately high and patience is very low this year.

I am trying my best to make the time to write an HF book on EJB, despite my schedule. However, I do believe it is better to target EJB 3.1 and related technologies at this point. I am truly sorry there isn't already an EJB 3.0 cert book out there.

PS: I think it is a good idea to not needlessly try to engage Bert and Cathy on this. Clearly, this is not a worthwhile endeavor for them personally at this point but they would try to help. It might be important to remember it has been a little while since EJB 2 was out. It is not too unreasonable that the interests/lives of the original authors have changed in significant ways...

You should expect a book written in the HF style covering either just EJB 3.1 or EJB 3.1+JCDI+JPA 2.0.

Yes, we are talking about a study guide covering all or part of the SCBD, depending of what exactly the SCBD covers for Java EE 6. I (or another author) would have to hash that out with the publisher.

I have not signed up yet and am still talking with them. It really would be very tough for me in terms of time, so I have to weigh it carefully, especially against writing a second edition of EJB 3 in Action or some other projects I have in mind.

The HF series is really ideal for young, first-time authors. Unfortunately, I am neither. However, I do wish to fill a need for the community and can certainly write an HF book comfortably in terms of style.

If you check the web site you'll see that authors are still being looked for (and, actually, there's nothing that reads like a firm commitment to publish the book at all). So anyone who wants to wait for it may have to wait for a long time.

Yes, I have started the audition process as a secondary author. An experienced Java EE architect named Dan Bush is taking lead on the effort. He is also a good friend of mine. Keep in mind, the book will target a future version of the SCBD at this point.

Don't have an idea of a time-line yet. That depends on a lot of things such as how we do on the audition, how much time we can devote to this and exactly what the next SCBD will cover.

I have sent an audition too. It took me 15 days to complete 12 pages. Although I could not arrange the text in a very amused manner. I could not arrange the font like skippy sharp.But I think they have already decided whom to pick.
I can't say it for sure but you guys might be already working with the book.

Obviously, audition decisions are up to HF Labs and I have no insight on it. It is good to know other folks are interested in doing this. I am sure one possibility here is collaboration provided the results of the audition.

I read this thread with excitement as this is a book that's sorely needed.

I'm also very pleased to hear of possible involvement from Reza:
1, as I'm chomping my way through EJB3 In Action (of which Reza was one of the 3 authors) and have found it so far to be the best book on the subject I've found
2, as I have received numerous helpful replies on this forum from him personally.

I've no doubt that if this book is produced, it will be a best seller, helping many new students of EJB.

Reza, isn't a new version of the SCBD exam years away? Although most Java EE 6 specifications are currently in their final draft stage, I personally don't see Java EE 6 happening this year. So we'll be talking at least about 2010. Historically, Sun has been quite slow to come up with new exams after they release some technology, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was another 2, 3 years at least before Sun even starts thinking about the possibility of revising the SCBD exam.

On the one hand I understand this strategy. The value if an exam may be seriously undermined if it gets obsolete at least every other year. On the other hand, it's impossible to get certified on a new Sun technology. Especially when a technology is new, the demand for qualified people able to work with it is the highest.
