finally I made India win.
I worked very hard for this win. It was not easy win and very expensive also.
It costed me 5 drought beer pitcher, 5 kingfisher lights beer. Lots of snacke, lots of bottoms up and shouting in Guzzlers pub.
And finally India won.
it cost only Rs. 1700/-, but it was worth watching match on big screen. I think I wil watch final at some friends' place.
Now no budget for this month Daru(alcohal) quota...
Great job .. done by both of us, Indian team and me
One last bottoms up was for "God" .. the Great Sachin

Australia defeated England by 2 wickets.
Well, I expected this result, but never guessed it will be such a close shave!
I still wonder why Hussain picked up Anderson to bowl the penultimate over.

Reminds me of the day we watched the quarter finals in 1996 world cup (in Bangalore)
Same teams, same tournament and same result
Only difference is that it costed me only around 1000 bucks. But then I was a student and that was a real BIG money.

That was a great match ... we were in train, way back to college(GIT,Belgaum) after vacation.. Goa express was full of students. In our coach there was only one radio. By God, that was real fun to listen the commentry and passing the information to whole coach.
Everytime any Pakistani batsman got out whole train will shout at once.....
Oh those lovely old golden days ......

I think India will definitely reach the semis.
Pool A
They already have 8 points and will beat Kenya. India = 12 points.
Australia will defeat all the Pool B teams and will have 24 points.
Most probably England will scrape through as Pakistan has a reallllllly really stiff target. England = 3 points.
So that leaves only 5 matches to be decided, 2 of India and 2 of Pool A 3rd placed team.
Pool B
From the looks of the SL-SA match currently underway, the teams are TIED!!! So Kenya, SL and NZ go through in that order.
Sri Lanka = 7.5, Kenya = 10 and NZ = 4 !!
Now let us say that India lose the rest of the 2 matches to SL and NZ. Then SL = 11.5, NZ = 8.
Now even if Eng win both matches, they will still be lower placed than India.
If Eng lose both matches, then SL = 15.5, NZ=12.
If Eng win one of the matches, then SL=15.5, NZ=8 or SL=11.5 and NZ = 12.
So the position would be Aus, SL, Ind, NZ.
Of course, looking at India and their opponents, Ind look set to win both the matches.
Also, Kenya might go through too...
Most probably, India will be placed 2nd.
And you can expect a Aus-Ind Final

I know there is a lot of Ifs and buts and miscalculations and rain, but hey it is cricket

Enjoy!

South Africa out of the world cup again, and again as a result of a tie. Quite bizarre. One can argue that they didn't deserve to get through to the super sixes based on the performance of their previous games, but don't forget that many teams often scrape through the first round (eg. Australia) and go on to the semis and finals.
I can't imagine there will be too many fans left around the grounds in South Africa if England also fail to reach the super sixes. Apparently the bulk of the fans in SA are from England.
I'm still predicting a Sri Lanka / New Zealand final

Well, they don't deserve it this time, but neither do Zimbabwe!
I was hoping that Pakistan will beat Zimbabwe (but not with a huge difference) and England will get thru!

You mean Zimbabwe deserve a place in Super Six for defeating ONLY Namibia & Netherlands?
Ofcourse, they earned points aganist England, but they didn't DEFEAT them!
It would have been better if Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan today or defeated England in the ground.

it is zimbabwes fault that england didn't play.
there was only one reason - personal saftey of the team, which zimbabwe organisers did not assure.

Simon,
I beg to differ.
Its not at all Zimbabwe's fault. The organizers has assured total safety to all teams playing in Zimbabwe. How is it that all other teams played including Australia without security.
As one of the previous posts said, the English government made a political statement by not sending England team to Zimbabwe.

It wasn't only a security issue. Australia's mindset is to win at all costs, politics comes second. So it was a quick hit-and-run for them in Zim. England, to their credit, stood up for their principles where no other country would.
Either way, the whole WC is a bit of a farce anyway. Always has been. I know it probably can't be done, but they need to re-organise the tournament so that every team plays every other team at least once, and rain-delayed games should be rescheduled.
It's hardly the same now with exciting teams like WI, Pakistan, South Africa and England out of it now. Win at all costs, that's what world cricket has become.

That's not at all what I said. Adam Gilchrist himself was caught up in the debacle of whether to play in Zim or not, and said that he also had to consider how their points would be affected if they were to abandon their Beitbridge match. Hence my comment.
Its just a pretty sensitive issue amongst Commonwealth countries at the moment, due to the governmental state of affairs in Zimbabwe. (You may have noticed the black-band protest made by Olonga and Flower). And yes, we all know sport and politics should not mix, but it certainly helped South Africa's cause when they found themselves pretty much isolated from just about every sporting code in the world a decade or so ago.
It became an issue with Australia as John Howard was applying renewed pressure to remove Zimbabwe from the list of Commonwealth participating countries at the same time as their team were scheduled to play there. Tough call.
All up though, the WC is still a sham. Zimbabwe goes through to the super-sixes after winning 2 out of 6 matches against non-test playing sides? Not to mention what WI did to Kenya last night, who ironically are also through to the next round. Can they really call the winners of this WC the most deserving? They will, of course, but should they?

It's not really the same at all though is it. Considering the two nations history if any militant group were to make a stand they would do it in the England match as it would have maximum impact.
All in all I think this World Cup has been disapointing so far, abandoned games, countries not playing matches. No England, West Indies and Pakistan in the super 6
T.
p.s. England weren't the only team di not play, neitherdid New Zealand.

Exactly! And this is what I too said. It would have been better. Results should be decided in the ground.
But now we can't give any credit to Zimbabwe, though they are not the one to be blamed.
