Hello,
When i tried to install Oracle 9iAS Enterprise Edition Release 2 (9.0.2.0.1) on Windows 2000 Machine, In the beginning of installation i get the following error--
'Installation has detected that a fully qualified hostname has not been specified for this host......etc etc. File C:\WINNT\System32\drivers\etc\hosts must also include a line of the form:
<IP_ADDRESS> <FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME> <ALIASES>
After making these changes, please reboot the host and restart the install'
In Host file, i have included the line, (127.0.0.1 localhost) and then tried to re-install, it shows the same error message. However, there is only one host file, and machine is independent. There is no ALIASES of the Machine, i tried to give PC Name instead of localhost, but still it did not work.
Hi Guys, Can any one help or suggest how could i proceed with the installation.
Thanks

i have got same error. solution was very simple. if you have more than one network connection (dial up, usb network, vpn service and so on) disable them. after installation you can enable them.

"Shariq",
We're pleased to have you here with us in the Oracle forum, but there are a few rules that need to be followed, and one is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks,
Jeanne
