Hi Friends,
I am planning to jump on the Oracle certifications and need help from you.
I am confused with whether to follow the 8i or 9i track. With some of the recent posting in this forum, I found that 9i track require you to take some classes, which are costly. Is is true?
So should I follow 8i track and start with 1Z0-007 or 1Z0-001. I believe 007 is latest compared to 001 and covers some 9i also. Then I will have to take 023, 025, 024, and 026. So a total of 5 exams to become Oracle 8i DBA.
How much is the cost for each of these exams. I could not find any info on the price on oracle website
Regarding prepration I have registered with OCP_Study yahoo group. Are they any free material on the web, which can give me some good starting point. I am confused with OCP, OCA and how they differ from Oracle 8i DBA track.
I am also planning to buy this book from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0782126855/ref=ase_whizlabs-20/103-1363156-4355053?v=glance&s=books . IS it a good book or any other suggestion from you is most welcome.
So at this time I am a bit confused with where to start.
Thanks a lot for your help.

First, I highly suggest going down the 9i path. 10G is already released, and 8i is almost de-supported.
Regardless of which path you take, the requirement is to have at least one Oracle U class, either with Oracle Education or an Education partner.
The 1Z0-007 is a test you take online, so the link there will tell you the price. But I don't know the other prices. I would think around $150.

I suggest you read this first,

If you a knowledge rich, cash poor go with 8i. Otherwise 9i would be more sensible.

Costs about $ 90 right now ( 007 ) and the other exams costs $ 125. Its worth giving the 9i track !

Hi
I would highly recommend going with 9i. Anyone looking at your resume with 8i Track done in 2004, would ask you why you did not do 9i.
9i also has so many features and enhancements and would be of more practical value. In a year or 2 Oracle would slowly start taking out support for 8i systems.
U can take the PLSQL / SQL exam over the internet at your convenient time.
You can also take the classes over the internet once you have cleared the exams. The Class is required only when you go for OCP. For OCA no classes are required.
I would not recommend the Sybex books. Rather go with the Oracle Press books. Also the Self Test Software is very good.
I hope the info helps.
