hi guys,
After contemplating too much whether to take ocp 8i exam or not, I have decided to appear for the ocp8i exam now. I came to know from the oracle website that they will be retiring the exams by the end of december 2004. Now, My only question is do i have ample time to pass all the 5 exams? I have around 1 year exp working with sql and pl/sql. I have ordered the sybex kit and will start preparing this week..
Thanks
Chitts

This is becos Oracle10g is round the corner.
I guess the beta exam will be hold at around Sep to Dec.

I guess you may also try to borrow ILT from your friends, if they have. As Oracle tends to use the content of ILT directly in their tests, so, you will find extra benefits in using them.
Best luck with your 8i trip.

In addition, Oracle has just announced a bad news to you.

May 1, 2004
Dear Valued Oracle University and Certification Program Customer,
On May 1, 2004, Oracle announced plans to retire the Oracle8i Database Administrator Certified Professional exams. In accordance with our stated retirement policy, we are hereby giving you notice of Oracles intention to retire these certification tracks. As of December 31, 2004, the core certification exams for the Oracle8i DBA OCP track will no longer be available.
Oracle will continue to honor and endorse those candidates who have earned their Oracle8i Database Administrator Certified Professional credential. Oracle8i DBA OCPs will continue to receive all benefits and communications as well as access to OCP resources relevant to their certification.
All OCP Candidates currently pursuing the Oracle8i DBA OCP track will have until December 31, 2004 to complete the required core DBA exams.
After December 31st, 2004, the following 4 exams will no longer be available:
Exam 1Z0-023 Oracle8i: Architecture and Administration
Exam 1Z0-024 Oracle8i: Performance and Tuning
Exam 1Z0-025 Oracle8i: Backup and Recovery
Exam 1Z0-026 Oracle8i: Network Administration
Candidates who fail OCP exams may retake them only after a 30-day waiting period as long as it does not fall beyond the retirement date. Since the exams will be unavailable after December 31, 2004, candidates should plan to take the exams no later than November 15, 2004 to allow sufficient time in case a retake is necessary.
Oracle encourages Oracle8ii DBA OCPs to upgrade their credential by taking Exam 1Z0-030 Oracle9i New Features for Administrators. Candidates who pass this exam will earn an Oracle9i Database Administrator OCP status.
The following upgrade exams will NOT retire and will remain available after December 31, 2004:
Exam 1Z0-035 Oracle9i DBA New Features for Oracle7.3 and Oracle8 OCPs
(One exam for Oracle7.3 and Oracle8 DBA OCPs to upgrade their OCP credential to Oracle9i)
