utl_file error - invalid file operation

Hi

i am using UTL_FILE to write to a file (in 'W' mode)
i get the following exception during fopen

ORA-29283: invalid file operation
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_FILE", line 449
ORA-29283: invalid file operation

Please help....

first u have to make changes in your init parameter file. i.e. that you have to specify dir name there. it can be given '*' if you don't want to stick any specific directory.
