Hi I am having an Oracle Connection problem, I am using the
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver and the connection
url in the format

jdbc racle:thin:@<servername>:<port>:<sid>

and am unable to connect.

I am getting an Io exception any help would be appreciated. I have another app that uses oracle and have no connection problems, could it be the driver.

Dave,
Welcome to JavaRanch!

Let's try to gather some more details about the problem. Does the other app that is working use the same servername/port/sid? Is it running from the same machine?
