Hi guys ,

I am new to Oracle products and need to know what are the requirements for using Oracle Discoverer ?

I tried googling but didnt get concrete answers..I need to know what do i require on my machine to install and run Oracle Discoverer. Here's my analysis till now --

Installation:
Oracle Discoverer is part of the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite of products. Oracle BI is included in the Oracle 10g Enterprise edition.
1) Installation of Discoverer when installing Oracle 10g Enterprise edition:
Assuming that you have already installed your infrastructure, you can straightaway select the first option - Oracle Application Server 10g - as the product to be installed.
In select installation type screen, select Business intelligence and forms
In select configuration details tick "Oracle Application server 10g Discoverer" checkbox
Since this installation will require to be associated with an infrastructure, I have to specify the host name where the infrastructure is installed.
Other steps listed in the following link--
http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/08/first-look-at-installing-discoverer.html
2) Install Discoverer in a standalone mode:
There is also an option to install Discoverer in a standalone mode for which you can download Oracle Business Intelligence and install it. In standalone mode it needs to be associated with an infrastructure.
Steps for associating a standalone BI with Oracle AS infrastructure are available at the following link
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/bi.1012/b13918/assoc.htm#sthref123

I need to know if we can install discoverer even if i dont have OracleAS Infrastructure. Please let me know if I missed out something.

Thanks in Advance !!

Greetings! Glad you are seeking Discoverer capabilities. My skill might be outdated but if things haven't changed too much:

You need to load the infrastructure FIRST. This can be on the same server [in Linux at least] and it needs to have its own ORACLE_HOME.

No worries -- the installer will present you with three options. One option has the magic word "infrastructure" and you can load that first.

If you are just in a hurry to play with data mining, the Desktop Edition will get you there (if they still have that in the newest version).
