I have a few example jsp apps under the examples directory and exactly none of the sevlet examples. The directories are empty.
Also, where can I download the docs for tomcat. All I seem able to do is browse them online. Are there no PDFs or downloadable html files about?
Thanks in advance.

If you download and install Tomcat for Linux using RPMs, the examples are not installed. Best I can figure as to why is that quite a few security exploits on other server systems have been by taking advantage of their standard sample apps.
If you download the regular archive (ZIP/tgz) you should see the samples and can copy them into their proper home in order to run them.

Answered my own question - I just downloaded the binary version of Tomcat 4. This auto installed everything I needed and gave me nice little startup and shutdown icons too. Even handy little conf file launchers.
