Hi Till,
Firstly, you're going to be busted by a sheriff or bartender for your name. It should be 2 names separated by a space.
Secondly, this may be a shot in the dark, but you might not have "tools.jar" in your classpath.

You need the full JDK to run Tomcat.

Hi Rene,
No you don't need full JDK to run tomcat, tomcat can run with jre alone also.

Guys,
thanks for the replies. Installing the full JDK was a solution for me. It's working now.

Hi Balaji
Yes but you need some - or at least one jar file(s) from JDK e.g. 'tools.jar' and if you do not have them/it from somewhere else then you need the hole JDK.

You are right,
you can refer a similar thread https://coderanch.com/t/81850/Tomcat/Tomcat-run-JRE-only
I found we need tools.jar for only un-compiled classes or jsp's.

Call me crazy, but Till Jaeger seems to run afoul of the "obviously fictitious" prohibition in the Official Javaranch naming policy. Please choose a user name that follows the rules.

Bodie,
whats wrong with my name?
I first took only my first name (that was wrong ok!) then i extended it to my complete real name (Till Jaeger). So whats now wrong with it?
