I started playing with request filters in Tomcat 4.1.18 recently and have run into a pesky error that I cannot seem to shake. I want my filter to process every url that comes along so I specified the * (wild-card) pattern in the web.xml file. This is even documented as a valid entry in the Wrox Tomcat book. But, when I start the server it gives me a pile of stack traces, one of which states that the context would not start due to the * in the filter url pattern?!
Anyone else run into this?
Any thoughts on how to get arround this?
Thanks in advance.
Chris

do you have a doc root on the url-pattern like this
<url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
If you type
<url-pattern>*</url-patttern>
it will not work properly. Just an idea

I eventually figured that out. Thanks for the confirmation though. That behavior does not seem to make sense when compared with the way servlets are mapped... * would work for a servlet.
Thanks again.
