Viewing files without tomcat

as mentioned in my previous post, i'm having problems accessing the tomcat site therefore i was wondering if there is a way I can see my files without having to upload them to tomcat so i can still work on them until i get the problem sorted?

Umm... you also said it was local host...

So where exactly are you sending your files that you can't see them?

i'm going into the tomcat manager page and deploying a war file to access them. It think tomcat is running but there sno way to check

so if you're doing this all 'localhost', then why not run it as an unpacked WAR ?

Of course there's a way to see if Tomcat is running. For one thing, the manager app wouldn't be there if it wasn't running. It's also listed under the Task Manager on Windows and ps -ef on linux.
