Hello Jim,
I am working on making a copy of JavaRanch using Servlets and JDBC. Can you pls tell me what is the structure of the database table that has been used.
And how you you put values in reply field.

Well,
I think what you mean to say is that you are writing messaging software that is similar to our messaging software, yes?
UBB does not use a database. Everything is stored as static files.

Thanks for you're reply. sorry for writting to you after a long gap. I have finished 50% of my work and things are working fine. But i have some pb and i am sure that i can always refer to you for solution and suggestions.
You said that UBB store every thing as static files. Now this thing is made in CGI and dose their is any thing as static similar to static in Java. What dose it mean in CGI?
When ever some one post a message an html file is made with proper .html extension. and using that url any one can directly enter to that page. So how is this thing happening. Can you expalin this to me.
Their is lot to ask. But i don't want to burden you in one go. Pls answer this thing and help me out.

It seems to me that you answered your own question. There is no database. Everything is stored as static files.

cgi is a scripting language used to find the html page that the user wants to access.
