I have Tomcat installed on my home PC & I want to access it from the Net. I got my ip from ipconfig and tried to access it in IE, but I get "server not found". I notice when I start up Tom it says Tomcat-Standalone. I don't know if this is a problem for remote access.
Are you perhaps behind a firewall or a router that blocks incoming connections unless they are specifically opened? That might be why it works fine connecting to it from the same machine or home network, but not from outside.
I am setting the port to 8000. I am not on a router and the firewall is allowing the requests. But I do notice I cannot ping the server. Could it be my isp has me behind a proxy server so the ip I get from ipconfig is not valid?
It's very possible that your ISP has you behind a firewall and will not allow incoming connections if they were not in some way initiated from within their firewall.
