I don't have experience on Tomcat + iSeries.

But

you can run Tomcat on iSeries but Tomcat must be developed by IBM.

IBM recently released its port of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) Tomcat Java* application server for the iSeries. With the repackaging of WebSphere* and the withdrawal of WebSphere Standard Edition, the announcement of ASF Jakarta Tomcat on iSeries (IBMs name for the Tomcat server) is great news for iSeries developers who want to get started with Java servlets and JavaServer Pages* (JSP) technology.

Based on the easy-to-use and -administer ASF Tomcat server, Tomcat on iSeries further demonstrates IBMs commitment to incorporating open-source technologies to enhance its offerings. More significantly, by bundling Tomcat on iSeries with its HTTP Server (powered by Apache), IBM has provided a complete no-charge toolset that allows iSeries developers to implement Java servlet-based dynamic Web sites. If youre interested in business-to-business (B2B) commerce, you can use IBMs XML and extensible stylesheet language transformation (XSLT) parsers, which are bundled with OS/400* and accessible via Java and Tomcat on iSeries.

IBM provides full software support for its Tomcat on iSeries and provides a set of wizards and GUI forms to install and configure Tomcat on iSeries via the administration server. There are two methods of configuring your HTTP Server (powered by Apache) and Tomcat on iSeries: the in-process model and the out-of-process model
