The BASEDIR variable gets set up for you.
You only need to setup JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME.
The sytax for exporting an environment variable looks like this:
export VAR_NAME=varValue
So, if your
java
install is in /usr/local/jdk1.5.0, you would set up your JAVA_HOME variable with the following...
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/jdk1.5.0
You can do this right from the shell window before running startup.sh
