Hi, I am new to JSP. I tried to run the following code:
index.jsp

------------------------------------
<%@ page language="java" %>
<%!
int count=0;
public void jspInit()
{
count = 3;
}
%>
<html><body>
<%= count %>
</body></html>

---------------------------------------

But, it gave me the following error:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache Tomcat/4.0.1 - HTTP Status 500 - Internal Server Error

"sampathkv",

There aren't many rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!

This looks more like a Tomcat setup problem than anything in your code (which does have some serious problems by the way --- you don't want to use the <%! syntax for stuff like this), so I'm moving this off to the Tomcat forum.
