I am currently running tomcat5.5 as my servelet container/webserver and last night I copied two jar files to the common/lib directory and learn about java server faces it worked like I expected. Then for some reason (prolly my fault) i was unable to get to any of my other webapps the only one I could get to is was the jsf test app. So I proceeded to try and figure things out with no luck. I decided I needed to replace tomcat all together, so now I have things working using another tomcat install. The problem is that I am unalbe to delete or remove the old tomcat directory. It keeps telling my that one of the jar's is being used by another program.

I know it's nothing of mine and have no idea how to get rid of this directory? .. any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Is an instance of the old server running in the background? Is this Windows? (which seems to get confused about these sorts of things so easily).

Ya I tried the obvious of course. I just woke up this morning thinking maybe I could remove it if I booted into safe mode, but don't want it to mess anything else up ..

If you have virus scanner(s) running, try shutting them off.

If the files are still locked after a reboot, it's something other than the typical "Windows getting confused about files" issue.

Are you perhaps starting some Windows Service that might be grabbing the files?

I can't even fathom what that could possibly be. The other day I had downloaded the jsf jar's (just learning) and plopped them in my common/bin directory but other than that I have made no changes that I can think of that would have any bearing on the jars in that directory.

Get me the mayor's office! I need to tell him about this tiny ad:
