i can't open the log file when the tomcat is running

why and what i need to do to change it ?

i am using log4j and i am having log4j.properties file
where i have defined the path of the log file

What do you mean by: "I can't open the log file"

How did you try to open it?
What happened when you did this?

when i double click the log file, it says

the document ../../tomcat.logs is in use by other application and can't be accessed

Try right clicking and opening with Notepad (or any text editor that ignores the read-only flags).
