error running servlets using tomcat

hi,
i am coming across a problem i am unable to run servlets n JSP using tomcat,eventhough i had successfully run both(servlets n jsp)before but now they are not running.i have not made any changes in anything...infact the homepage of tomcat server http://localhost:8080/
is not opening,its diaplaying error-404,whenever i try to fetch it.

please help me out....

Are there any error messages in the catalina.out file in the "logs" directory?

Is Tomcat running?

Who's 404 page are you seeing; Tomcat's or the default 'Friendly Error' page that MSIE displays instead of the actual server error?

My guess is that Tomcat is not actually running due to some startup error. What method are you using to start Tomcat?

Assuming windows - can you see a Java process in the Windows Task Manager?

Hi,
thanks a lot..
my problem got solved as there was some startup error.
i just restarted tomcat through console after shutting down all releated aplications and it worked...
