Hi

Currently I have Apache with mod jk in front of my Tomcat 5.5 (bundled in jboss). They work on the same machine. I want to move Apache to different machine - httpd.exe uses even up to 1,5GB of RAM and I wan't to assign as much as possible to jboss process - and probably context switching by cpu also hits the performance.

My question is - will it degradate performance? I mean the time of redirecting in mod jk?

You can facilitate performance tests with this program <a href="http://grinder.sourceforge.net/<a href="http://grinder.sourceforge.net/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Grinder</a>" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://grinder.sourceforge.net/Grinder
I would contact the ISP to get fastest connection between (virtual?) boxes, or dedicated rack servers if such are economically preferrable. I use the same configuration (httpd, tomcat/jboss, mysql) in virtual hosting with a couple of thousand daily pageviews.
