I want to thank Angela for the book recommendations that she does. I got my copy of Refactoring by Martin Fowler, and like a masochist read it all week-end. A am SO glad that I took her recommendation - it is a great book.

I'm afraid although I'm very tempted to take all the credit for the Bunkhouse ... I can't!
I just maintain the pages, it's the moderators here who review and recommend the books. (I'm going to be reviewing one myself soon though). I've not got around to reading that book myself yet but have always heard good things about it.
Coming soon will be a list of the hundreds of Java books out there that we havn't reviewed yet. Hopefully that list will get shorter as time goes by!

Too late. Since you didn't list the authors of the review contributions - in my simple mind you get the credit.
By the way, you have so much more experience in object oriented languages than I have that you may not be as impressed as I am with the concepts of structured refactoring. It is just that once you read this kind of a book, you can start looking for those indicators when you do new code also.
Plus in legacy languages the concept of self testing code is non-existant. So this is like new territory for me - it is fun and exciting!!

The author of the review has always been right at the end of the review You may not have noticed it though.
I've only been writing Java for 11 months. I had no previous programming experience before that. I appreciate the flattery and also appreciate the value of an extrememly well written book. I intend on reading it some time, for now though I'm too busy with work and stuff. One day ... I hope...

Perhaps the reviews could be tweaked so that the reviewer is more evident. Maybe putting "reviewed by" and the reviewer's name in bold?
A poor reviewer, starved of attention :-)

The reviews all say trailboss or a few say cowgirl. I just don't know who those are.

There's a whole load of new reviews waiting to be released very soon. For your interest, in the old reviews "Cowgirl" is Kathy Kozel, and "Trailboss" is Paul Wheaton. The rest of us are identified by name in the coming-soon bunkhouse.

I noticed in Angela's post that the moderators are the people who are posting the reviews. Have you considered allowing other people to submit reviews?

If you already have a book that hasn't been reviewed please do send your review to bookreviews@javaranch.com . Moderators get to choose a book they don't have and have it sent to them ... the privilage of promotion. That's how it stands for now, until we get things working like a well oiled machine ... then it may change.
