Hello everyone.
I have just began to learn jsp and servlets.
I have a question regarding deploying tomcat.
When I write my "helloworld.jsp" applications in the Webapp directory
it works fine when i view it on the browser.
But is there any i can use a directory other than the webapp directory
of tomcat home (say C:\MyServlets) and still be able to run it?

P.S: Netbeans IDE worked fine for this but i want to do this without using any IDE.Also please suggest any good books you know for learning servlets and jsp.

Thanks.

Sure. You can make any folder in your system the root of a web app. You need to set up a context and assign it a context path. The best way to do this depends upon which version of Tomcat you are deploying.

Check the documentation in your Tomcat download.
