I am looking to deploy my application on a dedicated server. I will be using a windows server. I have been researching how to do this and i am getiing mixed reviews. Do most use tomcat as the primary server or do they use it along with iis or apache? Is there anything wrong with just using tomcat on port 80? Is there any security Vulnerabilities in just using tomcat on port 80? What is the best way to deploy an e-commerce application using tomcat?

Unless you need something that IIS provides that Tomcat does not (ASP page serving, for example) there is no need to incur the complexity of using it with Tomcat.

Any security issues will come from Windows, not Tomcat.

So there are plenty of ecommerce sites out there that just use tomcat and nothing else?

Unfortunately i got the plesk control panel, and it will be useless if i shut down iis. I guess i really dont need that for anything. Wortst case, i can change the port on iis to something other than 80 and still use plesk for email servers ect.

I have no idea what plesk is, but yes, lots of sites (including all of mine) use Tomcat only.

do i need to do anything special to set it up or just configure it on port 80/443?

after that i should be able to use www.mysite.com as the address and not append the port to the end?
