my installation is as follows
C:\JBoss-2.4.4_Tomcat-4.0.1
and under this there are two folders
C:\JBoss-2.4.4_Tomcat-4.0.1\jboss
C:\JBoss-2.4.4_Tomcat-4.0.1\catalina
so here is the question what should be the
JBOSS_HOME ?
C:\JBoss-2.4.4_Tomcat-4.0.1 or C:\JBoss-2.4.4_Tomcat-4.0.1\jboss

I think you are talking abt JBOSS_DIST
then it is C:\JBoss-2.4.4_Tomcat-4.0.1\jboss

They say MySQL (what do I remember now..) but I think till there is driver available in Java any DB will do fine ....
