Reading about jboss portal some people speaks about PORTLETS, can you gimme a short clear example of what a portlet is?

how makes some money an open source developer if you give the server free? Maybe on consulting.. or only making books?

I'm not a portal expert myself. I'd recommend going to the JBoss website and watching one of the recent archived portal webex seminars. That will give you a good intro to portal.

As to JBoss, the company, it is a services company offering 24x7 support for JBoss. We do offer training and consulting too, but that is only a small part of it. If you are curious, here's
a brochure. It's a very good business model.
