When I send word document as an attachment to my email, almost anyone can open the attachment. How about staroffice documents ?
I think if they don't have staroffice s/w, then my attachment will remain a mystery.......

If you want that sort of interaoperability, StarOffice will happily save, load and export documents in equavalent MS formats (Word, Excel etc.)

Is it true that StarOffice is only compatible with MS Office and not any of the other offerings?

StarOffice opens, as Carl Sagan would say if he used StarOffice, billions and billions of formats. Old word processing programs you thought you'd never hear of again. Etc.
It's true that MS doesn't open SO, but SO opens darned near anything.
Anyway, you can save a StarOffice Writer document as HTML quite easily, and that's openable by anyone.

Vishakha -
To answer your question, yes, anyone who receives your SO attachment who doesn't have SO installed will be saying, "Huh"? Personally, I like doing that to people, and including the link to the download site to slap people out of their Monopoly Myopia.
