I've been ordered by Matthew to switch to Star Office. As a macintosh challenged kind of person, I would LOVE to get away from that other big software package that uses "Office" in its name, what's it called again?
Since Sun isn't planning on putting out a mac version themselves I'm a but out of luck. Unless, maybe, can't hurt to ask...
...has anyone out there with the new unix-based OS from Macintosh played with installing Star Office from the terminal utility??
Thanks,
Pauline

I personally avoid Mac like the plague , but I do know a few people who do use Mac. I'll check with them. If I hear anything I will let you know.

I really think that Sun is missing the boat by not releasing a Mac version of StarOffice. I did find the link to the open source project for StarOffice(called OpenOffice). They do not have a Mac version yet, but it is in the works. You can check it out at http://www.openoffice.org

Hey thanks, Matthew, maybe there's hope.
Found the direct link to mac OSX info from the openoffice.org page: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/
I'm looking forward to being able to check out StarOffice/OpenOffice. Apple's own office suite has been a disappointment, especially in terms of recognizing MS files.
Cheers,
Pauline

Ain't no Mac support in 6.0, I'm afraid. (They hired me to write the 6.0 product guide with all the new features, and I'm assuming they would have told me. ;> ) 6.0 was generally a cleaning-up and adding-Asian-text-support release. Maybe next time.
The Mac can, I believe, open StarOffice 6.0 files since the format is XML not binary. No idea what the files would actually open in.
Speaking of XML, the best news about 6.0 is that the file sizes are TINY. TEENY TEENY TINY. Even Impress.

Oh, well. Will just keep waiting for the open source folks to come up with something...
Thanks for the info Solveig.
