Whenever I try to install the J2 SDK 1.4.1 on Windows XP Pro, everything works til the actual install is supposed to start. It just hangs there. When I hit the Cancel button, nothing happens; so I have to use task manager to cancel it. Afterward a small window with a message saying "An error occurred while launching the setup. The remote procedure call failed". I found a similar posting on Sun's Installation Discussion Group from last spring for XP & J2 SDK 1.4.0, but there was no resolution posted for that one either.
I found no meantion of this kind of problem on Sun's site, and a request for help from Sun proved an exercise in futility. I was able to get the most recent 1.3 version to install. So that is what I am using, but I would like to get the most current version up. Anyone have any suggestions? Is this even the right place to post this topic? Thanks!

I have a little different problem. I installed Sun ONE studio 4 plus jdk1.4.1 in my Windows XP Pro successfully. However, whenever I exit Sun ONE studio, the computer just crashes---everything freezes, I cannot even turn it. I have to pull the battery to restart (it is a laptop).
I also tried Fort 3.0 (previous version). The same problem persists. I wonder if there is anyone out there who have successfully used Sun ONE studio and/jdk1.4 in Windows XP Pro. Would any gurus care to share some thoughts here?
Thank you!

Hi,
I am not using XP because it's too new for me because I learn from experience alway for a year or more before buying the product.
I heard the coworker claims that install from CDROM is OK?
For the S1S4 IDE, that thing remind me of XWindows aged ago. It's so fragile. That's why it's free?
Regards,
MCao

Emma,
I installed jdk1.4.1 in windows xp yesterday and using it without problem. Did you try installing windows xp service pack 1 and then installing jdk1.4.1?
BTW, as it is already 4 months you posted, did you get any other solution in the meantime?

I stepped down to the prior release and installed it with no trouble. Hard to understand why the new release is less tolerant of XP than the older one.
