performance issues for higher loads

we expect the loads on the appserver to go up to 10 times in the near future. The requests will be to the appserver thru iws. We use HP-unix boxes(clustered) with 4 cpus on each of them with around a gig of memory on each and with 6 kjs processes.
What are the factors to be considered(like kjs memory allocation--heap size etc..) to handle the higher loads? Any hardware requirements? How can I analyse the capacity issues and the requirements.
Any help appreciated(urls?).
