Hi All,
Please visit http://softwareforum.sun.com regarding any query related to any iPlanet product. There you will be in touch with the iPlanet experts who will be able to help you more.
Thanks,
Sanjeev.

Sanjeev,
Do you work for Sun/iPlanet? Just curious.
I've tried the forum for iPlanet there, and dislike the interface. I have my own gripes with InfoPop on JavaRanch, but it's still tons better. I've asked questions on the sun software forum and gotten poor responses or none.
I prefer to ask casual questions here and call iPlanet tech support if it's serious. Plus, here I don't have any worries about censoring if I have gripes about Sun/iPlanet (like the fact that iAS 6 is buggy and incomplete). Not that I suspect any censoring is happening, but it's not uncommon for vendor-hosted forums to do so.

Hi Gerry,
I'm surprised and a bit curious to know why you don't have a good opinion on softwareforum ?. I usually see a good response in that site and never felt like ignored and I thought that was site managed by Sun themselves, so they might have a good expertise right ?
Cheers

I've found that forum to be really difficult to use. I'm sure once I get used to it, it will be fine, but there is something to be said for "simplicity from the start".

Also... what was wrong with their newsgroups? I enjoyed those much better, but there must be a company directive to answer only questions posted to the softwareforum.sun.com website now, because the ng seems to be very quiet.

I never could see the newsgroups. Our network firewall blocks all newsgroup stuff, and back at the house my @home cable access switched to comcast.net and they don't support newsgroups yet.
I still stand by my opinion that having 'unofficial' support groups for any product is beneficial to the community.

The first poster in this thread is likely employed by sun in some fashion. I have been using iPlanet for the past 1 1/2 years and have seen his name frequently on their news groups associated with Sun/iPlanet support.
FWIW: The previous iPlanet newsgroups actually worked quite well. Seldom a day would pass before someone would provide feed back to an issue or question. I have at least two questions on the new SoftwareForum site and haven't even had a bite.
To boot is is hard to browse; it has no reall good way to see a snap shot of all ongoing threads. Very disappointing overall.
Perhaps this site will make up for the loss of a good resource.

Glad to have you aboard, Fred. Pass the word about Java Ranch. The rest of the forums on here are a great resource, and this one has a good start. The more the merrier!
