1) I am using iPlanet Web Server 4.1 Enterprise
2) Created a simple JSP that queries a Japanese Oracle DB for a Japanese string entered via the browser.
3) In all the cases below the JSP is the same and the backend being queried is the same:
a) When I host the JSP on iPlanet 4.1 enterprise and use Internet Explorer 5.5 / 6.0 as the client, I get a <b>Bad Request</b><br>Your browser sent a query this server could not understand
b) Everthing works like a charm when I use my Mozilla 1.0 RC2 as the client
c) Everything works like a charm when I host the JSP on Jakarta Tomcat server.
Has anyone faced similar issues? Is this an iPlanet + IE problem that someone is aware of?
Any clues will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Since there were no responses in this forum, I am moving this topic to the iPlanet forum.
Please continue the discussion in that forum.
Thanks.

Let's just say I'm not surprised that iPlanet has a problem with this...
Wish I could help, but I've only worked with US/English standard stuff. iPlanet even has problems with that, too, sometimes...

You need to add a hidden field in the form to specify that the post data is getting sent as
shift_JIS(For ex
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=x-sjis">
<title>ParaTest\203y\201[\203W</title>
</head>
<body>
<form method="POST" action="test.jsp">
<input type=hidden name="j_encoding" value="Shift_JIS" > <---add here
<p><input type="text" name="test" size="20">
<input type="submit" value="\221\227\220M" name="B1">
<input type="reset" value="\203\212\203Z\203b\203g" name="B2"></p>
</form>
</body>
</html>
---------------------------------------------
No changes were necessary with the test.jsp.
This fix is actually documented in iWS admin guide:
http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/50/ag/esapi18n.htm#12996

hi mayank,
i am facing lot of troubles with iPlanet 4.1...here u go with my troubles...
i am using iPlanet Enterprise Edition 4.1 for webserver. it seems that no JSP tags like jsp:useBean, jsp:forward etc works with it. i am not a first time user of JSP. earlier i used tomcat4.0 creating beans and used with JSP and now i was about to use taglibs but that wouldn't work with my webserver.
am i missing something? i know that 4.1 version is not like tomcat4.0 WAR configuration where you have web.xml kind of file to configure settings like filters and taglibs etc but version 6.0 supports WAR format where i guess i would be able to write taglibs and all...
please make me aware if i'm missing something and if there is a way i can use beans, taglibs with my iPlanet 4.1.
regards
maulin
PS: Moderators, please don't remove this message as it is already there in JSP forum. i requested moderators out there to redirect this message to iPlanet forum which couldn't be done so far and i had to re-post the message. sorry about that.

If you are using a rototiller, you are doing it wrong. Even on this tiny ad:
