It all depends on what you are going to use it for. There are a number of different LDAP servers out there, commercial as well as free.
Have a look at OpenLDAP, that's a good, free alternative. As for the commercial alternatives, Sun has a Directory Server and there's also the option of using Microsoft's Active Directory (AD) for some applications.
Admit nothing. Blame everyone. Be bitter.
