I sent e-mail to four winners of the Hired Guns giveaway.
Two of them have responded so far:
<h1>
Travis Gibson
Shaochun Xu
</h1>
Congratulations to each! I have sent you each an electronic gift certificate to amazon.com. Please let me know if there are any problems.
(I'll announce the other two winners as they reply to my e-mail)
So! What do you all think of that hired gun stuff?

I think it's great. The only bummer is that it seems most of the companies placing ads require at least a few years experience. I'm still a bit nervous about finding a job without any programming experience and was hoping to find some possibilities in the Hired Gun section. Perhaps in time.

Surely there are at least a few in your area that are looking for programmers that are a bit more junior?

I know what you mean. It seems most employers when they post for a job say they want a lot of experience. However, from talking to people it seems that there are quite of few employers that are even willing to teach. At least where I live...I live out in the Seattle area.

Paul -
I think the Hired Gun page is a great idea. I didn't send an e-mail to any of the recruiters for the contest, but I was impressed at the list you have already compiled. I know that when or if I start looking for another job, I will be using the Hired Gun page, as it will make things a lot easier!

Paul,
Great idea, I told my co-worker I was dedicating my life to trying to win all your give-aways. I'll have to start after this one, since I wasn't in the market for a new job (yet). I would be interested to know if any of those companys were looking for some really sharp JAVA programmers to do some moonlighting assignment. Wouldn't that be a cool addition to JavaRanch? Sort of a Job board, but nothing big like those other job sites. I'm talking about a place for a company to post want ads stating...
Looking for a sharp Java programmer to do 2 week programming assignment in the evening. Specification will be sent when rates are agreed upon. etc.
-Peter
Ps. I'm pretty sure the parties would find some way to give back to JavaRanch for hooking them up.
