just finished test 486

Unfortunately, I did not pass.
I scored a 63%.
There were more exhibits, questions on Development process, and questions on the Unified Process than I had anticipated.
I only studied for 1 month, but I learned more about 0-O design in the last month than the last 12 months.

My main study materials were UML Distilled by Fowler, Applying OOAD/UML by Larman, and UML in 24 hours.
I feel the book that needs to be known extensively is Applying OOAD/UML by Larman.

Hi Todd,
We have had all kinds of experiences with Test 486!
Some find it simple, while others find it more difficult (or should I say more tricker!) than one usually expects it to be.May be this is because we work in the paradigm of the IBM pre-assessment test.There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the actual test is on a different difficulty level when compared to the pre-assessment test.So the secret to score more in this test could be to see beyond the IBM pre-assessment test.
I also had a bad experience with this test by scoring about 10% lower than what I had expected.I had put in about 3 months of effort for the test, especially since I was new to OOAD concepts.
Since you seem to have about 12 months of experience in OOAD and now that you have taken this test once, I believe 1 - 1.5 months of effort before taking the test once again should see your through with a respectable score.

I think the best book to clear 486 is Larman's. I scored 81% back in the days. Be sure you understand his GRASP patterns. Some say it's BS but I think it's essential when it comes to design cohesive objects.
