I just picked up "Developing Enterprise Java Applications with J2EE and UML" by Khawar Zaman Ahmed and Cary E. Umrysh. The book was released on December 15th, so it's very new. I haven't gotten a chance to read the book yet, but after browsing the book quickly I was upset to see that the first half of the book it devoted to UML basics. The book also goes into some detail regarding J2EE components, like servlets, JSP, EJB, etc, but why waste so many chapters on these topics when the intended audience for the book are experienced J2EE developers looking to use UML for enterprise applications? Only about 25% of the book illustrates how to use UML notation for J2EE applications.
I'm looking for a good "hands on" book on enterprise java and UML that explains, among other things, how to gather requirements and classify them appropriately, how to write a specification document and the topics that should be addressed within the document, and how to generate classes from use cases using concrete examples. This book fails to provide these simple things.
I dont want a book on theory, so please, save it! :-) I already passed 486 last summer.
Just wondering what you guys recommend.
thanks,
SAF
