Hello all,
Today begins the four-day promo for Dating Design Patterns. The original work by the Gang of Four and their friends, written in college, where they became dating maniacs. As Christopher Alexander, a TA at the same institute of higher learning, said at the time, "Do you have any idea how unusual that is, for guys who read Knuth for fun?"
So in "Dating Design Patterns," it is revealed that the true genius from the Gang of Four was not how to create elegant enterprise software systems.
It was Trojan Proxy.
It was Encapsulated Big Fat Opening.
It was most definitely Half Bad Boy Plus Protocol.
It was Dating Design Patterns. With assistance from Christopher Alexander, whose personal dating diaries were recently discovered in a garage sale in Poughkeepsie. Also includes the Gang's own hand-written notes in the margins as they continued to test and refine their patterns.
You can read excerpts at www.datingdesignpatterns.com, and you can ask questions right here of me, Solveig, the editrix and connection to the fifth member of the Gang of Four who brought me the original manuscript.
Books are also available at Softpro, Nerdbooks, soon from Powell's, and direct from me through the excellent printers at www.cafepress.com/datingpatterns
Ask away!
Solveig

Thanks! Yes, they were kind enough to round up some pictures at the last minute even as they were so sleepy they were talking to the Ancient Monkey Gods. I had no idea they would put in my URL for datingdesignpatterns.com, so that was an extra special chocolate sauce on top sort of surprise.

Yes, what's that about? No picture? I'm going to blame K and B for talking to the Incan Monkey God too much to get your picture in.

Everything there looks like a scream. The only thing funnier than that, from first glance, was the five minutes I sat back in my chair after looking at the thumbnails of the diagrams and started contemplating the models and how it might relate to my relationship....
Ayup, I'm a nerd. *hangs his head* That, and now debating how to get my girlfriend to read the book...
(Being on CafePress myself, I'm glad to see quality books from folks who are publishing through them - I'm contemplating putting out my next book of poetry through them instead of another POD.)

Your girlfriend should get a kick out of the book, especially the somewhat cynical first of two bullets in the Forces category of the Optimistic Persistence pattern.
Doesn't CafePress rock? Love the perfect binding. And it's cheap for books at least. I did have one PDF problem and one spiral binding complaint but so far so good. And apparently Alistair Cockburn's 15 year old son loves the "I Implement Half Bad Boy Plus Protocol" tshirt so it passes the 15yearold boy test. ;>
Poetry? Now, I think there's potential here. How about a book a la DDP called "The Wasteland" discussing the Windows XP codebase? ;>
