How important are the OCUP exams for OOAD?

Dear all,

I think for a while whether to go for the OCUP exams. Since OCUP only test the UML spec I doubt whether such exams would make sense for the OOAD process. As I've learned in OOAD you don't need to know every bit and byte of the UML spec. Please take into account that most of the colleagues around us do not know UML at all.

What is your opinion on the OCUP influence on OOAD

Darya

They're basically useless. They test your knowledge of UML. That says nothing about your ability to develop an OO-based system.

But they might help you to get a job because the HR people generally don't have a clue how to hire people, but instead will look for keywords and what they consider the "right" certifications. It's pretty sad but that seems to be the way it works for a very large number of organizations. The real question is whether you want to work for them or not.

Hi Scott,

thanks for your response. I also don't see a benefit in the OCUP exams for a better handling of the OOAD process.

The people at OMG are also not responsive to my emails and why should I care for them when they don't care for me

Darya

OMG Certified UML Professional exams are as important as the Sun Certified Java exams.

Good luck on your exams...

Hi Steven,

it's good to have you here . Actually I was looking for someone like you.

Did you pass all 3 OCUP levels? Can you share your exam experiences? Why do you think are OCUP important?

I see that you already did the SCJD and SCEA exams which really speak for itself. Congratulations

Hence, I think that your thoughts are very valuable.

Darya

Need to walk before you can run...

OCUP is to OOAD what SCJD is to SCJD.

> Did you pass all 3 OCUP levels?

Currently at OCUP-intermediate level. Have not taken the advanced exam yet.

> Can you share your exam experiences?

No books yet.

The FAQ located at
http://www.omg.org/uml-certification/frequently_asked_questions.htm
is useful.

Key study artifacts for me were the Coverage Document and UML 2.0 specification.

The exam experience - much like SCJP

> Why do you think OCUP is important?

- Career advancement

- Provides a great way for seasoned professionals to renew skills while learning about the new UML 2 changes.

- OCUP is setup by the OMG - the organization that manages UML.
