I doubt very much if you could get $80k with 2 years experience, maybe with 5+ and a bit of luck.

You're probably right Marcus, however as a Melburnian it is my duty to slag off Sydnet Although in my opinion the lifestyle and affordability is much better in Melbourne. I really wouldn't consider Adelaide or Perth seriously for IT jobs though because from what I hear there are very few and they don't pay very well.

Padmini,
I am based in Melbourne at the moment and the demand for Java contractors is close to nil. Permanent salaries for people with about 3 years IT experience is between AUS$45k and $65k, depending on your skill set and how much a company likes you.
Most of the work down here seems to be with consulting firms and therefore they pay a premium for people with good communication skills (written & verbal)
In Sydney, the pay seems to be a bit higher and there are quite a lot more jobs, the downside is that you have to live in Sydney!
Good Luck.

People have been saying that COBOL is dying for 20 years!! There are STILL jobs and contracts for COBOL around!
The explosive growth that Java has had over the last couple of years may have subsided, but even if new development in Java isn't taking place (which it is), there is all those existing systems that need looking after and enhancing.

Congrats!
I'm not sure why you're so proud you did it without JQ+, all it does is save you searching the internet for lots of mock exams. I don't think just having JQ+ will increase your score, you either understand the fundamentals or you don't!

There is no real benefit to getting any higher than the 61% needed to pass. The only thing I can think of is that maybe in places such as India where it seems that having this certification is so common you need to differentiate yourself even more.
In the vast majority of cases I don't think an employer will ask for your mark.

You'll be fine - I agree JQ+ questions were signifcantly more difficult than the actual exam.
Good Luck!
